Chrome Plating

I always emphasize to choose your favorite brand or supplier. I just don't want to endorse any particular brand or company. However, there are times where a company gives you more than just a service, and you want people to know about it.

A lot has been said about chrome plating. There are many companies dedicated to this. Recently, while working on the red '67 Corvette for the FUN CONTEST, I decided that the bumpers and windshield frame needed modifications in order to make a correct replica. Some parts can be modified and covered with metal foil, however, a Sting Ray bumper is a foil nightmare, and paint is not always the answer.  After the parts were modified, I contacted Chrome Tech U.S.A. in Wisconsin, (608) 274-9811. The owner, Robert, was very, VERY helpful. It was like talking to a friend and fellow modeler, rather than a "company". I felt like their only customer.

The quality of the plating is excellent, but I was really impressed when talking to Robert, and he told me he plated the parts, but he was not satisfied with the results of the front bumper. He sent the other parts, re-plated the front bumper to his satisfaction and then sent it immediately after. He didn't charged additional postage, that's service!!

Summary

This is a good example of going one step further in customer satisfaction.  Chrome plating pricing is not out of reach, it only needs careful planning.  Make sure the parts are properly modified, smooth and clean, you don't want to send them twice.
