2000 Corvette Convertible
Revell Wheels of Fire Snap Tite kit # 85-1904

Review:
This kit was first released in 1998, then reissued in red plastic for 99. For its third reissue, all with the same box number, it has received one very valuable revision. It now comes with the beautiful five spoke wheels added to Corvettes in 2000. Outside of the limited edition Revell promos this is the first time these wheels have been available in plastic. The only other new parts in the kit are brake disks to be mounted behind each wheel. No attempt has been made to represent the calipers so these units remain of poorer appearance then similar units from the 98 AMT curbside kit. While the kit continues to have a one piece platform frame some careful paintwork easily disguises its curbside roots. The tub style interior continues to have separate inner door panels and base style seats and even without detailing produces a very good likeness of a Corvette cockpit.
The body is molded in highly polished yellow but the external mirrors are black. The notes on the back of the box indicate that the body is molded in red. All other parts in the kit are molded in black, excluding clear parts and red tail lights. Despite being three years old the mold continues to produce well fitting, crisp and flash free parts.
The decal sheet is the now familiar stick-on vinyl being used in many Revell kits. The only decal that will be used by experienced modelers is the well done gauge cluster which is now correctly done in black. Revell has neglected to supply a Corvette logo for the waterfall between the seats.
Final Comment:
When this kit was first released in 1998 I felt that it set new standards for a snap style kit and it continues to provide the beginning modeler with the opportunity to produce a satisfying model. With the inclusion of the new wheels the experienced modeler now as an excellent platform to produce a 2000 and newer Corvette. Well done Revell !!
