1963 Corvette Sting Ray

Revell Pro Finish kit # 85-1351

Review:

This kit is the pre-finished version of the previously released snap kit. The pros & cons of this earlier kit have already been reviewed so won’t be repeated again. The body is molded in black plastic and the high luster appears to be a clear coat finish which on my kit appears to have worn off where the plastic ribbon crossed the hood. This clear coat also seals in the flame decals applied to the hood and sides of the body. Molding lines are also visible along the fender lines and across the tail. It is unfortunate that R-M can’t add this cleanup detail to the other work being done in the factory. The only other painting on the body consists of well-applied silver paint on window frames, hood recesses and logos. A little red & white will be needed to finish the logos correctly and a light wash of black will make the recesses appear more natural. There was also a small amount of silver over spray at the rear edge of each recess.

Interior parts are molded in tan but further paint detailing will be needed to create a realistic interior. All other parts of the kit are identical to the WOF version.

Final Comment:

With the applied flame decals it appears Revell was trying to create a street machine. Had they provided appropriate tires, mag wheels, side pipes etc. they could have produced a kit that was distinctive from the WOF version and worth the additional cost. Considering what you get in this kit save a few dollars and buy the Wheels of Fire version.
