Diecast Corvette models
Review
With the shortage of new Corvette kits, desperation has forced me to look elsewhere for a new kit fix. A recent trip provided me with several new diecast kits for my collection. All kits include pre-painted metal bodies with the rest of the parts rendered in plastic.
Bburago Coupe #143 Convertible #128
From Testors/Bburago come a pair of snap together C5's, a coupe
in red and a convertible in black. Both are in 1/43 scale and
appear to be reasonably accurate given their small size and heavy
metal bodies. While not recommended for the serious modeler these
kits are interesting from the collectors stand point and at five
bucks a kit they offer an inexpensive diversion from your normal
modeling.
Testors 1964 Grand Sport Coupe #147
A third diecast kit in 1/43 comes in the same box style as the
Bburago C5's but carries only Testors labels. It was also listed
in the web site as an expected kit for 2000. It builds a white
1964 Grand Sport coupe. A parts count indicates 50 plastic parts,
plus rubber tires and metal body, which is not bad for a kit of
this scale. Like the C5 kits this is a curbside kit with a
simplified but adequate screw on plastic chassis.
Bburago 1998 Corvette #5576
The fourth kit found on my excursion is also of the build your
own diecast variety, also by Bburago but this time in the more
familiar 1/24 scale. This red convertible is typical of most
diecasts by this company with opening doors, hood and engine.
This kit is one of a series of diecast kits, mostly of European
cars but the series does include a 1997 coupe and a 1956/57
convertible. Unlike the 1/43 scale kits which are all recent
releases this kit has been available for sometime.
