1959 Roadster
For
1959, the styling excesses of 58, the hood louvers and chrome trunk spears
were removed but there were no other external changes. Changes to the interior
included redesigned armrests, a storage bin on the passenger side of the dash,
the introduction of sun visors and for the first time a black interior.
The popular "T" handle shifter with the reverse lockout also debuted
in 1959 4 speeds. Five different engine choices were available, ranging from the
base 230 HP base engine up to the 290 HP fuel injected unit. All engine
choices were 283 cu. in. Production was up slightly to 9,670 cars in a
choice of seven colors with white remaining the most popular by a wide margin.
