Corvette Model Gallery

1957 Roadster

Silver would be added to the color options for ‘57 although Onyx Black would be the favorite. Outside of this there were no external changes from 1956. The ig news were under the hood where the engine grew from 265 to 283 cu in. The option list, almost doubled and mostly with performance items including the fuel injection option. When mated to the new optional four-speed manual transmission Corvette was becoming quite a performer. Fuelie cars can be easily spotted by the Fuel Injection script on the front fender side cove. The influence of Zora who would become chief engineer in ‘57 was being seen. The buying public also approved with a production number reaching more than six thousand cars.

The model:

Steve Purvis built this '57 flip nose from the latest repop of the old MPC kit

Here is an old repop of the MPC Flip Nose 57 Vette.  As you know I usually like to build stock, but this one was just too far out to bring back to stock.  I did fill that hole in the hood and built the dual quad engine so the hood could be closed, but I gave up on the rear wheel wells and just used the slicks.

Out of the box this is a pretty crude kit.  Lots of flash, spent several hours cleaning up the parts for this one.  But it was a fun build.  It is painted Model Master Classic White.

I paint primarily with Testor's enamel.  I don't like to prime or polish and as a rule these enamels come out with enough gloss straight from the airbrush.  I don't have the patients to put a lot of work in any one kit.  One it's painted and dry I usually finish it up in 3-4 days.  Helps being retired, I have all the time I want to build.
