1998 Coupe

 In its second year, the C5 introduced its convertible sibling.  It was introduced a year after the coupe, but the C5 was designed as a convertible platform from the beginning, eliminating the need for additional braces to stiffen  the chassis and its associated weight.  The convertible featured an externally access  trunk, the first since 1962.  The coupe didn't change in appearance to the '97, but several improvements were made under the skin.  Active handling was introduced during this model year.   In 1998 the Corvette was chosen as the Official Pace car for the Indianapolis 500.  The Corvette was also selected as car of the year in 1998
