2000 FRC (Fixed Roof Coupe)
For the millennium year, the Corvette lineup returned with the same three models: Coupe, Convertible and Fixed Roof Coupe or hardtop. Since the 1999 model year was a success and virtually sold out all year long, no major body styling changes were made. New for 2000 were aluminum 5 spoke wheels available in a painted finish as standard equipment or highly polished as an option. The magnesium wheels were still available as an option. Two new colors were added to the palette for the 2000: Dark Bowling Green Metallic in honor of the Vette's assembly plant's home town and the new Millennium Yellow, which became a very popular color. Torch red was now available as an interior color. The Z51 performance handling package was improved and the active keyless remote entry was now standard. The passenger door lock cylinder was deleted.
The model:
I built this 2000 FRC from Revell-Monogram's kit #
2578 '99 Corvette Hardtop
To convert the '99 to a 2000 I used the wheels from the WOF snap
2000 conv. kit.
A very popular modification to the C5: Polished aluminum exhaust
tips. The license plate is a photoreduction of my car's plate.
The bottom of the C5 is as pretty as the top. I would like to
show this model upside down.
A close up look showing the scratchbuilt manual transmission and
rear suspension. This car is not available with an automatic, but
the kit does. Other related modifications include the
modified pedals with clutch added and the corrected shifter.
The engine compartment was upgraded to 2000 standards. Note
the single fuel line as opposed to dual in previous years.
The oil dipstick was scratchbuilt from solder core.
The engine bay from the other side. Note the inspection
sticker in the windshield.
Comments:
I spent a great deal of time correcting this model to
accurately represent a 2000. Most of those modifications
aren't noticed, like for example the interior, but I did that for
my own satisfaction.
