2005 Coupe

The C6 debuted in the 2004 Detroit Auto Show.  Later, the convertible was announced in Geneva.  The C6 is not a radical departure from the C5.  The frame, chassis and many other components were upgrades based on the C5 platform.  Externally, one of the biggest changes is the exposed headlights, ending a tradition that started back in 1963.  The C5 was most likely the last production car in the world to use hidden headlights.  The engine is the new LS-2, a 6.0 liter small block from the Gen-III family of engines.  It produces 400 HP and 400 lbs/ft of torque.

Frank clark built this C6 and here are his comments on it: "This is my 2nd C6 model. The first was pretty disastrous. It was very sloppy and it began to fall apart, so I chucked it and tried again. Although this one is still quite crude compared to some of the gorgeous, impeccable models you'll see elsewhere on this site, I'm pleased with the improvements I made, especially with the paint. I mixed my own metallic orange, which comes pretty close to the actual Corvette Atomic Orange. I finished with a coat of Future floor polish which worked well for that deep gloss. My painting technique still needs a lot of practice, there's plenty of orange peeling and unevenness. Oh well, I'm having fun and getting better at it. I think I put the third brake light on upside-down...it was a tough part to handle. I glued the hood shut for simplicity, which means I skipped building most of the engine details. Shame on me. I will paint my next one Lemans Blue to match the real 06 I just bought!"
