2002 Convertible

The big news for 2002 continues to be the Z06. Tweaks to the air intake and catalytic converters have allowed the hardtop’s version of the LS1 to match the horsepower output of the legendary ZR-1. This 405 hp is proudly announced in the chrome badge on the front fender and allows Corvette to be included in the rarified list of production cars with more than 400 horsepower.
Two colors are discontinued, Navy Blue & Dark Bowling Green Metallics but a new color is introduced, Electron Blue is similar to the ‘96 Admiral Blue but with a fine metallic appearance.
While closing in on it’s 50th Birthday Corvette continues to improve both on and off the track.

The model

This model was built as a companion piece for my earlier C5 Torch Red coupe including the same plate using the Revell 2000 conv., kit #85-1904.

The following work was done :

- Paint is automotive Touch-Up Torch Red, color sanded then polished using Novus plastic polish

- Exhaust tips were replaced with aluminum tubing.

- The chassis was detailed using paint and the chassis mounting holes in the mufflers filled.

- Brake calipers and rotors came from the spares box. The calipers should be grey but looked good painted to match the body.

- Kit emblems were sanded off and replaced with MCG photo-etched items.

- The interior was painted red and black, seats replaced, carpet added and further detailing added.
