R-M Kit #85-7638

Parts included with kit #85-7638
Review
The layout of this kit reminds me of the Revell Corvette Indy.
Simplistic in some ways, with one serious but correctable
building problem, but satisfying in the end. To solve the
building problem check the write up in the Corvette Gallery. In
the meantime here are some general comments about this kit.
- Tires included in the kit are Goodyear GS-C which were
not available till 1992. To build an accurate Aerovette
youll need to find a set elsewhere.
- The decal sheet is simple, consisting only of necessary
body logos. The nose logo is inaccurate, it should be
crossed flags on a black ring not a white circle.
- The interior, although basic looks okay once installed.
Replace the stick shift, its much to tall.
- The V-8 is adequate but sitting under the rear window as
it does its crying out for some detailing.
- One piece side glass/windshields can often be difficult
to install. The piece in this kit fits better then some
but is still a snug fit. Ensure that all flash is sanded
from it. It fits from the outside so you could leave it
till late in the construction cycle.
- The body consists of three pieces with rear and front
clips as separate pieces. According to the instruction
sheet these three pieces are not to be glued together
till the end of construction, after the
interior/engine/suspension/chassis assemblies are in
place. If this procedure is followed there will be
several ugly body seams left where they shouldnt
be. Should the clips be fitted earlier the chassis which
is trapped under them cannot be fitted. (See my Gallery
write-up for a solution to this problem)
Final Comment
This is a car that I was eager to add to my collection.
Despite some building problems it is a worth while and even
necessary addition to every Corvette collection. I hope R-M will
consider doing some of the other concept Corvettes.
