Review:

"The Vette AGIN is the latest in a long line of innovative custom car concepts from automotive artist and designer Thom Taylor." I quote from the instruction sheet write up because I’m sorry to say till this kit came out I’d never heard of Thom Taylor.

The model is meant to represent a modern custom concept of a 1953-55 style body but with a custom sculptured interior, fuel injected engine and modern wheels. When I first looked at the kit I could see the Corvette heritage in the body lines but some of the parts looked familiar as well, so I went to the closet to have a closer look at other kits.

• A number of sprue from this kit have come directly from Monogram’s 1957 kit. This explains the 1/24 scale and also some of the extra parts that you’ll not use such as #19, 99, 36 & 37. By the end of your build you may find more.
• The chassis comes with a molded in exhaust system while the body has molded in sidepipes. The stock system is easily removed, if you decide to pretend that the sidepipes would be an operational system on a real car. Of course you’ll have to create a pipe from the manifold to the exhaust if you go that route.
• Two sets of wheels and tires are provided. Either five spoke mags or billet chrome and for rubber your choice is Goodyear Blue Streak or Goodyear 275/40/ZR75. (not all kits have two sets of tires - AR)
• The fit of all parts appears to be good.
• Decals are garish and best thrown in the spares box.
• Windshield and frame are one piece making it easy to foil or mask and paint.
• The engine is the FI 283 from the 1957 kit. I wonder if a left over Monogram LT5 would fit???

Overall Comment:

This is the kit to pull out when you realize that you’ve been getting too serious about the hobby. It goes together easily and it’s a fun break from the usual project. Now where did I put that purple metallic paint and lime green carpet flocking???
