2004 Z06
The fifth generation Corvette, or C5, said goodbye in 2004. For
the final year of the C5, Chevrolet produced a Commemorative LeMans edition, and
on top of the list was the Z06. The Commemorative Z06 uses a carbon fiber
hood, first in a mass production american car, special LeMans blue paint and
graphics. the badges honor the 2 previous GTS wins in LeMans by the C5-R
racing Corvettes.
Commemoratives and regular Corvettes also benefited from minor adjustments in
suspension setup as well as continuous improvements all around the
vehicle.
Also on 2004, the Corvette was selected again to Pace the greatest race of all:
The Indy 500.

Phil submitted this model along with its unique story. The following is Phil's description:
"In July 2005 a number of race enthusiast modellers from Victoria B.C. Canada went to the American Le Mans Series race at Portland, Oregon. One of the cars that caught our attention in the paddock was a SPEED GT Corvette owned and driven by Wendell Chambers who had a heart transplant just a few months earlier. When he found out we were modellers, he asked about the possibility of us building a model that could be auctioned off on e-Bay to raise money for a transplant foundation. Six of us made a commitment to build one very good model: Don More - chassis, George Doran - engine compartment, Jeremy Mahovlich - interior, Mick Szirmay - graphics, Russ Ferguson - paint, Phil Dauphinee - body and photos by Gerry Chevalier. The model will be publicized at various events, in magazines and on television leading up to it being auctioned.
BODY – Revell Corvette Z-06 stock body was modified with sheet styrene and putty. Vents were opened and louvers from C5-R grafted into hood. Scratch built mounting brackets and end plates were added to a parts box wing.
CHASSIS – Built basically box stock from Z-06 kit. The wheels are after market white metal units combined with C5-R slicks.
INTERIOR – A stockZ-06 interior was modified with transmission hump, roll cage and seat from C5-R. The dash was altered and decaled to represent the race car dash. A cool suit cooler was mounted on the “passenger” side.
ENGINE – Engine compartment was separated from interior tub. The engine uses many parts machined or fabricated to replicate the real engine. The exhaust system was bent from solder.
PAINT – Tamiya Mica Blue.
GRAPHICS – Decals are a combination of custom graphics and downloaded sponsor markings."
