C5-R

The Corvette C-5R started development as a GT racecar in 1998. Over the last two years the car has evolved through a number of permutations in terms of its appearance and configuration. Images of the Corvette racecar from its earliest race appearance have been used extensively by Chevrolet for advertising purposes in enthusiast magazines.

The model

Phil Dauphinee built this incredible C5-R and he wrote: "From the very first time I saw this car with body in white, I wanted to make a model of it. The body of the model, which is highly modified, was started in March 1999. Over the course of construction, modifications were made according to currently available images of the real car. I kept progressing but did not go back and re-modify already fabricated sections. As such, the body represents the 1999 test car, while the livery is as the C5-R raced at the 2000 24 Hours of Daytona."

The body, frame rails and running gear are mainly from the Revell '98 Corvette Coupe with other parts coming from a wide range of kits or being scratch built.

The Revell TransAm Camaro provided the roll cage and interior. The Tamiya Mercedes CLK provided the wheels, tires and brakes. To simulate the carbon fibre, I used Scale Motorsport 1/20 decal material coated with Micro-Gloss.
