2004 Z06
The fifth generation Corvette, or C5, said goodbye in 2004. For
the final year of the C5, Chevrolet produced a Commemorative LeMans edition, and
on top of the list was the Z06. The Commemorative Z06 uses a carbon fiber
hood, first in a mass production american car, special LeMans blue paint and
graphics. the badges honor the 2 previous GTS wins in LeMans by the C5-R
racing Corvettes.
Commemoratives and regular Corvettes also benefited from minor adjustments in
suspension setup as well as continuous improvements all around the
vehicle.
Also on 2004, the Corvette was selected again to Pace the greatest race of all:
The Indy 500.
The model
Nik Chaphalkar modified a Revell 2004 Z06 to create this:
Nik's comments: "This is a 2004 Corvette, taken from the Revell kit 2827 Z06 Commemorative Edition. I started by cutting the back end and widening it, and adding material to the front fenders as well. I added four fender flares and rear fender ridge details, cut the doors-which meant I had to paint and install the interior tub before painting the body. Then I could install the doors and make sure everything would line up. I took the wheels and tires from a Maisto Ferrari. I used Auto Primer and Duplicolor Paint (1973 Midnight Blue Mettalic), and LMG polishing kit. This is the first time for me to do doors, engine detailing, auto paint, wheels, and polish. I call her Roxane. "
