After fourteen years and 542,861 cars the Shark era was ending. GM called this years Corvette "an enthusiasts kind of Corvette" but also "a civilized one." And this was certainly a fairer assessment then to call it a sports car or refer to its performance ability, in 82 you couldnt even order a manual transmission.
To honor the end of the era Chevy offered a Collector Edition. It proved to be a very striking car is silver beige paint with darker beige accent panels, a silver beige interior, special emblems, a true hatch back and unique wheels similar in appearance to the optional wheels of 1967. The C3 had come a long way. From a car full of squeaks and rattles but with huge amounts of power in 1968 to a luxo-cruiser that was more at home driving to the opera then driving on the track. For many Corvette owners their love of the exotic looks and curves of the C3 more than makes up for any problems the car may have.
