1954 Carrera Panamericana Mexican Race

Probably the earliest documented racing attempt for the Corvette was the Von Esser/Pultz entry in the November 1954 Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico. A lot of speculation surrounds this attempt, as information and reference pictures are scarce. Research has confirmed that the car used was a '54, and not a '53 as many people believe. The essentially stock car retired with overheating problems.

The model:

Gary McNutt built this replica of the earliest known effort to race a Corvette: The 1954 Carera Panamericana

1953 Pan American Carrera (Mexican Road Race) Corvette - AMT T-310.
Fred Cady made a decal sheet for this unique car though there are very few photo references available.

Removed the grille teeth and added headlamp screens

.

Lowered the front end by raising the spindles and making them poseable Added tube exhaust pipes and wire wheels from the parts box.

Comments:

Thanks to Fred Caddy, this little known car can be replicated. In 2003, Revell-Monogram reissued the '53 Corvette with the appropriate decals for this specific early racing version.
