1973
Government safety regulations resulted in a new front end for the Corvette. This created an oddly incongruous look for the car with a streamlined body colored nose but a large chrome bumper in the rear. Chevy also used the required change as an opportunity to make other body changes. Gone was the egg crate style grills and louvers. Only one style of hood was required and it was designed to pull air in from the base of the windows. One of the gadgets that had annoyed Road & Track in 1968 was gone; the vacuum operated wiper doors at the base of the windshield. This system first shown on the Shark show car had been prone to freezing up or failure since its introduction.
The model
Joe built this '73 to replicate a car he owned for about a month, before trading it for a '64.
This is a resin body from Mini-Exotics over a 72 AMT chassis.
Comments:
Joe's kids called this car "The Banana". He recalls it as ugly yellow with black leather and fully loaded.
