2005 Convertible
The C6 debuted in the 2004 Detroit Auto Show. Later, the convertible was announced in Geneva. The C6 is not a radical departure from the C5. The frame, chassis and many other components were upgrades based on the C5 platform. Externally, one of the biggest changes is the exposed headlights, ending a tradition that started back in 1963. The C5 was most likely the last production car in the world to use hidden headlights. The engine is the new LS-2, a 6.0 liter small block from the Gen-III family of engines. It produces 400 HP and 400 lbs/ft of torque.
The model
This model represents one of the very first
2005 convertibles.
This car was the one photographed for the
press kits released by GM at the unveiling of the car. The unveiling happened in
Geneva on March 2 2004, and followed half a day later at the Cleveland
International Auto Show. Dave Hill unveiled the car in Geneva, while Chevrolet
Division General Manager Brent Dewar handled the US introduction. The actual car
used in the unveiling was silver with black interiors.
This is a conversion that was screaming to be done.
Converting the C6 full detail glue kit into a convertible by grafting the
decklid and conv boot from the snap C6 convertible. Of course, going thru
all this hassle, it wouldn't make sense to leave the engine alone.
Paint is Cobra Colors LeMans Blue
Interiors are a mix of MM radome tan
and MM flat interior tan. The black is actually a mix of flat black and gray
I like how the window sticker came
out. It is accurate but Shhh, the VIN number does not match LOL
The car was featured in the cover of
the Summer 2004 issue of Corvette Quarterly. I used it as the primary reference.
Two photoreduced magazines are in the car
This exact same picture is featured
in the magazine.
I made the front tire slightly
poseable. I corrected the centering problem with the Revell kit.
The license plate is a reproduction
of the actual plate used in the car
The top is a heavily modified C5 unit. The window opening was enlarged since it
is 18.5% larger in the C6 than in the C5. The front was matched to the contoured
windshield frame.
This is one of my best modern
engine ever. I wired and plumbed everything I could, including stuff I have no
idea what it is.
Added details include fully wired alternator, two sensors in the air induction
system, left and right (My favorites), hose clamps, plug wires, oil dipstick,
power steering cooler lines, fuel line, hydraulic lines (I guess) I have no idea
what they are for, brake and so many others I either forgot or they don't show.
There are more than 8 different
shades of black in this car. Flat, semigloss, gloss, mixtures of them, flat
mixed with gray, dullcoated, glosscoated you name it. They look better in person
then in the picture
As nice as the top is, I love how
the underside turned out. Many metallics were used here
Since this is a replica of an actual car, I had to restrain myself NOT to go with my personal touches like inspection stickers, license plates, red calipers, emblems etc etc.
