1957 Roadster
Silver would be added to the color options for 57 although Onyx Black would be the favorite. Outside of this there were no external changes from 1956. The option list, on the other hand, almost doubled and mostly with performance items including the fuel injection option on four of the six engines. When mated to the new optional four-speed manual transmission Corvette was becoming quite a performer. Fuelie cars can be easily spotted by the Fuel Injection script on the front fender side cove. The influence of Zora who would become chief engineer in 57 was being seen. The buying public also approved with a production number reaching more than six thousand cars.
The model
This '57 was built by Ignacio Salas-Humara from Comfort, Texas.
He used Testor's can spray paint #2918 Guards Red for the body
and interior and #1246 Metallic Silver for the coves.
" I hand painted the door handles, instruments, etc., but
did not use metal foil for body trim."
"I finished with two coats of Future liquid floor wax,
brushed on. I added some fuel lines to the engine, but other than
that it's box stock."
"I was pretty excited about it since it's the first model I've built since I was 16! I built the kit for a neighbor who loves vintage Corvettes after he told me of his fantasy 'Vette---a red 1957 roadster with red interior and silver side coves. Really enjoyed building my first model in 23 years! I hope to do many more."
