"Big John" Mazmanian's CM/SP '61 CORVETTE  "clone"

This model represents the 1961 Corvette that was originally built by "Big John Mazmanian". It was the first of a series of Candy Apple Red drag cars campaigned by "Big John". The car has recently been restored and is on display at the NHRA Museum in Pomona. It also reappeared in R&C in 1999.

The model:

Don built this model basically as a Big John Mazmanian's "Clone " . All of John's cars were show room caliber, but the 61 wheel well was hacked at  the Track by one of his crew members.  A short time  later the car was "put out to pasture".  Bob Panella purchased the 327 Blown motor for his '41 Willys P/U.   Don created this piece, as "if" Big John would have the time to have modified it correctly.  This model was built using the Reliable Resin '61 transkit as a starting point.

Paint is Candy Apple Red ( HOK )

"I didn't like the Hack Sawed rear wheel well.  So, I did and I thought Big John would have done "if" that 61 AA/GS would have had a longer life"
