Corvette Model Gallery

1986

1986 was an important year for the Corvette.  A convertible model was again available along with the coupe. The last convertible up to that date was the 1975 model year.  This new convertible was chosen as the official Pace Car for the Indy 500.  The official pace car was yellow, but all 1986 convertibles were Pace Car replicas regardless of color.  Other significant changes include aluminum cylinder heads, Anti Lock Brakes and the VATS antitheft system, that required  special keys. A Center High Mount Stop Lamp was also added in the model year as per federal regulations. Bright Red was the most popular color option with 9,466 units.  There were a whopping 17 color options for the model year, including 5 two tone color options.  A total of 35,109 units were made, of which 27,794 were coupes and  7,315 convertibles.
