1980

After a record year in 1979,  the Corvette had to deal with new challenges for the 1980 model year.  Because of  tight emissions requirements in California, Chevrolet put a 180 hp 305 cubic inch V8 for the Corvettes destined for that state.  The speedometer was now only a 85 MPH unit, as per federal requirements.  New bumper caps with integrated spoilers gave it a fresh look and helped reduce the drag coefficient from .503 to .443.  Production reached 40,614 units, in the last full year of the St. Louis plant.  The most popular color was white with 7,780 followed by black with 7,250.  The least popular color was Dark Green, with only 844 units painted that color.
