1984 Coupe

The first ‘84s wouldn’t begin to roll off the line till January 3, 1983 but since the 1982 production line was not closed down till October of ‘82 GM decided to build its first C4 to meet 1984 requirements and to skip the 1983 model year. The delays in reaching production could be excused considering that this was the first entirely new Corvette in 15 years. And new it certainly was, from its contemporary wedge shape to an all new steel unibody chassis welded to an upper body "birdcage" for increased rigidity. It still retained the classic sports car look of short rear deck and long hood but now the upper half of the hood opened to provide easy access to its L83 motor, the only carry over from the ‘82 car. Elsewhere under the traditional fiberglass skin were numerous improvements to suspension components, many now in aluminum to save weight. Inside the purists criticized the space age digital dash and the difficult ingress and egress over the side rail but once settled into the comfortable cloth or optional leather seats the critics could be easily ignored as you rocketed to 140 mph in a car that handled like a Porsche. The buying public agreed purchasing 51,547 cars during its extended production run. This number continues to be the second highest number in Corvette history behind 1979's high of 53,000.

With a Graphite interior, using Dupli-color car paint over primer base...   Scott also placed tinted light covers on the nose and installed rear window louvers.. both being popular accessories in the early 80's...

Scott mentioned that he didn't spend time detailing the engine compartment or interior .. but as with all his Vettes he builds, did a great job on the basics.. making for a great looking model!
