1960 Roadster
A 1960 is nearly indistinguishable from the 59. Several of the color options were different; there were several mechanical differences and some minor interior differences the most noticeable being a vertical pleat pattern to the seats rather then the 59 horizontal pattern. This is also the year that Corvette enters the lore of pop culture with the debut of the TV show "Route 66" about two young men seeing America in a 1960 Corvette. America would continue to take to Corvettes as well with more than ten thousand being sold and white being the most popular, who says all Corvettes are red.
The model
AMT kit #6588 in 1/25th scale

Robert Wheeler sent in this 1960 Roadster... look at the smooth paint and the great detailing Rob has put into this model.. to take an older kit like this and turn it into a great eye catcher, it takes a lot of patience and work.
Here are some of Rob's comments on the model:
Paint:
Tuxedo Black (Humbrol) with Silver coves (clear coated metalizer), Red interior (custom mixed).
Work Done:
Windshield frame & glass replaced with one from Revell kit.
Tires from spares box, but should have been wide whitewalls.
Antenna added.
Rear backup reflectors added.
Problems:
Engine was poor so kit was built as a curbside.
Interior shallow and heavy.
Windshield frame and glass poor and heavy.
Comments:
While this kit is released as a '59 it can only be built as a '60. (Direction of the pleats in the seat cushions determine this). Considering it's promo roots one can't complain about this kit too much, but let's hope R-M will use their new '58 mold to eventually put it to rest.
