1958 Roadster
1958 has often been criticized as being excessively gaudy. Corvette was given its second major redesign this year with broadened fenders to fit dual headlights, redesigned interior, non functional louvers on the hood and a great deal more chrome. Despite any criticism the number of sales increased reaching more than nine thousand and for the first time earning a profit for Chevrolet. 1958 saw some interesting color options, Charcoal was ordered by sixteen hundred customers but delete half way through the year, Silver Blue, Regal Turquoise and Panama Yellow were all one year only and the most popular, White beat out Silver Blue by fewer then five hundred units. For the super detailer this was the first year for factory installed seat belts although they had been a dealer option for the previous two years. And if you want to really argue with the expert you could mount the antenna on either rear fender, the factory mounted it on the drivers side while the dealer mounted it on the passenger side.
The model:
The Pro-Modeler '58. Built box stock and it's a real nice kit.
